Happy birthday, Gifford Pinchot National Forest,the forest surrounding the Packwood area and home to the Goat Rocks Wilderness Area, Mt. St. Helens Monument, and the Cascade Crest! Named after the first chief of the Forest Service, this forest is a wealth of resources and recreation. May 10 & August 31 2008 Mossyrock Public Market

May 16 2008 Paradise Inn, Mount Rainier, Re-opens
The historic Mt. Rainier Paradise Inn re-opens after a two-year renovation, the first since it was built. It will open to the public at noon for lunch, and everyone is invited to the 3PM ribbon-cutting ceremony, where cake and coffee will be served.

July 26 & 27 2008 Annual East Enders Rod Run

July 27 2008 Annual Pancake Breakfast

August 3 2008 Annual Beef Barbeque
Sponsored and produced by the Packwood Volunteer Fire Department, this event is held at the Community Park behind the Community Hall from Noon until 4 PM. All are welcome! For more information, call 494-4123.

August 7 2008 Morton Loggers' Jubilee
An annual event held at the Morton Jubilee Park, complete with parade and many events featuring the time-honored skills of loggers as well as lawn mower races, food concessionaires, and a flea market. It's a weekend packed with fun!

August 12 2008 Star Gazers' Party
To take advantage of the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower on this night, townspeople and visitors alike will assemble in the sports field behind the Packwood Elementary School building, first being treated to an interpretive talk about the summer sky and the meteor shower at 9 PM in the school and then to watch the show outdoors. The most intrepid viewers will stay to take in the event's peak around 1 AM and to watch this fireworks show provided by nature. Come join the fun!

August 15 2008 Sports Car Club of America
SCCA events are held at the no-longer-active Hampton Mill site just West of Packwood, accessible from US Highway 12. This event goes from August 15 - 24 and will encompass the National Tour, Evolution School, and Pro Solo.

August 16 2008 Mt. Rainier Rockin' Country Music Festival
Held, at the Mineral Lake Event Center in Mineral, WA, this country music festival features The Protektors, Megan Law, 8 Second Ride, Chris Gunther, Bill Russell & The Coal Train Express, The Shelli Parker Band, Bobby Holland & The Breadline and a jam around the bon fire starting at 11:15PM after the concert. Admission: $25 for adults; kids under 12 free with a paid adult. Reserve a room at a comfy Packwood motel and drive to Mineral for the concert; your room will be waiting for you! October 11 & 12 2008 Annual Packwood Art Festival
Featuring the work of local and area artists for exhibition and sale, this juried event is held in the Packwood Community Hall and in the Packwood Senior Center next door. Exhibit is from 10 - 5 Saturday; 10 - 4 Sunday. Saturday night's festivities conclude with a classical musical concert, featuring the Seattle String Ensemble, held at the Presbyterian Church on Highway 12, just east of town at 7PM.
